I take data security very seriously. For each customer I hold the following:

• Name (for delivering lessons)
• Address (for delivering lessons)
• Phone number(s) (for changing lesson dates/time)
• Licence number (* DVLA for checking validity & DVSA for practical test)
• National Insurance number (* DVLA for checking validity)
• Theory number (* DVSA for moving practical test if self booked)
• Payments made (amounts and dates)
• Hours of lessons used (for pre-paid blocks)

These items are necessary for the conduct of our business. If I do not need an item for a specific customer then I do not record it. Where any computer data is shared with a third party (items marked *) I cannot guarantee the data security of their computer systems.

Where any of these items are held on my computer it has anti-virus software and an Internet firewal. Where any data is held in hand-written or printed form we ensure these are not visible to other customers in the car. The documents are disposed of by reducing to small shreds.

I may also record a lesson via dashcam. These recordings are overwritten every few hours. They are only kept if:

• There is an accident; then video clip may be sent to insurance company
• There is a query about the lesson or mock test; then video clip may be stored.

Financial data:

I record payments made by each customer and the number of hours used. I take payments by cash, cheque or Internet banking. I do not hold details of customer’s bank accounts or credit card details.
