FAQs

Here are some of the questions I am most frequently asked…

Do I have to wait until I am 17 to apply for my licence?
You can apply for your licence before you are 17 but it only becomes valid once you reach 17.

How old do I have to be to start driving lessons?

As long as you call us a few weeks before your 17th birthday, I can usually see you on your 17th birthday !

What do I need to bring on my first lesson?
I will need to see your photo-card driving licence. In order to check your licence, it is helpful if you can bring your National Insurance number. And if you need glasses or contact lenses bring them too.

Can my mum or dad sit in on the first lesson?

Yes they can, and on any lesson. I only ask that they keep quiet during the lesson and save discussion for afterwards.
Do I have to pass my theory test before I start lessons?
No, you can start driving lessons before you take your theory test. In fact you may find that driving first helps you understand some of the questions.
What documents do I need to take for my theory test?
You MUST take your photo-card driving licence with you. Failing to do so will mean you do not take your test and will lose your fee.
How many lessons will I need?
Depends on you really – some people find it easier than others. We will estimate how many lessons we think you need then review that every few lessons.
How long are the lessons?
All my lessons are one and a half hours long , which I have found to be the perfect length of time to retain the skills learnt
Can I be picked up from school, work or college?
Let me know in good time then I am normally happy to start or finish lessons at school, work or college.
Do you offer guaranteed pass driving courses?
No one can guarantee you a pass, otherwise there would not be much point of it being a test. I firmly believe that a mock test is the best measure of how ready you are.
Do you do intensive driving courses?
I do offer semi intensive courses whereby you can have several lessons per week.
Do you cover short notice driving tests?
I am usually booked up several weeks in advance. Please call to ask about our availability.
What cars do you use?
I use a Seat Ibiza petrol manual fitted with dual controls and air conditioning.
I’ve already done some driving – how can your driving school help me?
I offer an assessment lesson – it gives you a chance to see if you like the instructor and the car before you commit to us.
Do you mind if my Mum or Dad take me out too?
I recommend private practice. Please ask your driving instructor about this and they can explain the benefits to your parents. Remember time with your parents is practice; let me do the teaching.
Who books my driving test?
Normally I book your driving test , so that I can move tests easily.
What do I need to take with me on my practical driving test?
You MUST take your photo-card driving licence and your glasses / contact lenses if you need them for driving. Forgetting any of these will mean the test does not go ahead and you will lose your fee.
Will my instructor sit in the car on my test?
I recommend this and our instructors are happy to oblige but it is your test and your choice. It is a good way for your driving instructor to see how you did on the test and to help you to understand the feedback from the  examiner.
What is the New Drivers Act?
If you get six or more points on your licence within two years from the day you pass your test you are likely to have your licence taken away. You must then apply for a provisional licence, re-sit the theory test and the practical test before regaining your full licence.
My question isn’t here – now what?
Just get in touch which ever way suits you and I’ll do my best to help. If we don’t know the answer I will find out for you.
